The History of Blair Machine & Tool

Blair Machine & Tool was established in June, 1972 by Grover and Pearl Blair. Although, Grover's experience in the can industry began twenty years earlier at Continental Can Company. In 1952, Grover began his career in the can industry as a machinist with Continental Can Company in New Orleans, LA. By 1954, he had been promoted to Supervisor. In 1961, Grover began a new job with Reynolds Aluminum as Engineering Supervisor in Florence, AL. Grover moved to Container Corporation as Plant Engineer in Orlando, FL in 1964. In 1966, he was transferred to St. Louis, MO as Project Engineer. In 1968, Grover constructed and set up a new facility for Kaiser Aluminum in Jacksonville, FL and became Plant Engineer. In 1972, Grover was working as Plant Manager at Kaiser Aluminum when Blair Machine was born in the family garage with three used machines. Manufacturing began at a slow pace but within a year grew large enough to require a move to a 3000 sq ft rented facility.

By 1975, Blair Machine had grown beyond the capacity of its building, and it built a 6000 sq ft state-of-the-art machine shop. As the facilities grew, so did the family involvement. Over the years, the three Blair children came on staff with the company, one of which also had many years of can plant experience. The company supplies spare parts to over 150 can plants worldwide and boasts a 20,000 sq ft machine shop to accommodate the ever-growing CNC department. Grover and Pearl have never forgotten the supportive can plants that were so instrumental in the success of Blair Machine & Tool in the early years. The company philosophy is "If we manufacture high-quality parts, the parts will sell themselves." We know that our success depends on meeting the needs of our customers.
